The Original "Honesdale Candy Mix" This Unique Mix of Virginia Redskin Peanuts and Chocolate Babies originated in Honesdale, Pennsylvania in the early 1920's. Van Deusen's Candy Store was a favorite gathering place for many confectionery lovers, myself included! Two mechanics from Paul Matter's Studebaker Shop, just across Main Street, would frequent the candy store for a sweet fix also. One day while working on the Van Deusen's candy delivery truck, they decided to mix together in a tin can, the specially roasted Virginia Redskin Peanuts with Necco Chocolate Babies. They placed it on the exhaust manifold of that 1929 Ford Huckster delivery truck. Slightly warmed, the salt and oil from the peanuts would coat the chocolate babies and together would give you this incredible taste, thus the name “Garage Mixture”. Van Deusen's Candy Store and Paul Matter's Studebaker Shop, what a combination! Van Deusen's blended this mixture through the late 1960’s in Honesdale until the close of the candy store. 30 years had passed, and in 2001 I reint roduced this mixture and packaged it in one of my Designer Collector Series Tin's. I have brought back that confectionery memory that we had craved as kids. Enjoyed by generations of candy lovers everywhere, “Honesdale Candy Mix” has become a World-Famous Treat! Directions: Mix together the Chocolate Babies and the Virginia Redskin Peanuts in your “Honesdale Candy Mix” Designer Tin. Gently stir together. This will allow the extra salt and oil from the peanuts to coat the chocolate babies, and together will give you that unforgettable taste! Tell your family and friends about “Honesdale Candy Mix” so that they too may enjoy the Most Unforgettable Confectionary Treat In the World! |
